Be prepared for the worst: Hendrawan

After the news of Lee Chong Wei broke the internet and it was revealed that the ace shuttler is battling an early stage nasal cancer, the Malaysian badminton fans and fraternity is advised to be prepared, as there can be a chance that the shuttler might hang his racquet.

The coach of the national Men's Singles, Hendrawan stated that it is too early to make any decision on the future of the shuttler, but there is a chance that the 36-years-old shuttler can bid goodbye to the badminton world and his long career. So, everyone should be ready for it.

Currently, Lee Chong Wei is in Taiwan and seeking treatment for the same. Lee is expected to come back in a few weeks.

Hendrawan visited the ace badminton player accompanying Lee Chong 's former coach Tey Seu Bock. It is revealed that Lee Chong is responding well to the treatment; however, it was not the right time to talk about his return to the court.

As quoted in the NST sports, Hendrawan revealed, "So far there has been no discussion on Chong Wei's future, but it is only right, because at the moment, playing badminton or getting back on the court is not his priority. All of us want to see him recover,"

"However, like it or not, everybody here at BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia) must be prepared for the worst. Things like this can happen to anyone, and there is nothing we can do about it" he added.

"Yes Chong Wei will be back soon, but if the doctors are against him playing competitive badminton again, then he may just retire."

Hendrawan also told that all the issues regarding the Department of Men's Singles would be acknowledged after the return of the three-time Olympic silver medallist, Lee Chong Wei.

"As I said, we can't make any decisions right now. Of course, we will all have to sit and discuss with head coach Misbun (Sidek), but let's cross that bridge when we get there." Said Seu Bock, the coach for Women's Singles. Seu Bock is devastated, seeing Lee Chong in such condition, battling the disease.

"I must admit I was shocked when I first saw Chong Wei after he started his treatment. He looks thin. Of course, Hendrawan and I were not there to make him feel sad, so we tried to cheer him up. He is a fighter. Despite his condition, Chong Wei has not given up hope. Before we left, he said to wait for his return," Seu Bock continued.

Last Saturday, the Badminton Association of Malaysia revealed that Lee Chong Wei is diagnosed with nasal cancer. After returning from the Indonesia Open in July, Chong, who was regular in his training, was remained absent from the training.

Before heading to Jakarta, the ace shuttler also clinched the 12th edition of the Malaysian Open at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

After facing problems in respiration, the shuttler withdraws from the World Championships, that was held at Nanjing, China and he also backed out from the Asian Games at Indonesia, that concluded last month.
