Sameer Verma may have been the defending champion, but now it’s Sourabh Verma who is the reigning one now. Sourabh produced an almost flawless performance to power over Singaporean Loh Kean Yew in a highly anticipated title clash, here at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.

Sourabh had been in terrific form leading into the finals and he made a bright start to the finals taking the opening game with relative ease at 21-13. He looked on course to close the match in straight games with a healthy 10-4 advantage at one stage. But then Loh Kean himself had put in a spectacular show to reach the finals and he was not going to surrender all that easily. He put together a string of six points on the bounce and romped home the advantage in the second game.

At two games apiece, the third and final came was always going to be a cliffhanger. At 11-11 the championship was for anybody’s taking, and that is where Sourabh managed to hit the accelerator and take the title. The rapturous celebrations on court and in the stand clearly exemplified how much the title meant to the young man from Madhya Pradesh.

In the women’s doubles final – where Sikki Reddy & Ashwini Ponnappa squared off against the Korean pair – Baek Ha Na & Kyung Eun Jung, gave a tough fight but lost some crucial moments and with that the chance for the gold medal.
Sikki & Ashwini have been in tremendous form this past few months and really deserved the gold at their home tournament.

The women’s singles title at the Hyderabad Open went to Yeo Jia Min of Singapore, who managed to come from a game down against second seed An Se Young 12-21 21-17 21-19 to register her maiden win in Hyderabad.

The Indonesian pair of Muhammad Shohibul Fikri & Bagas Maulana were in inspired form to take the crown 21-18 21-18, while their compatriots Adnan Maulana & Mychelle Chrystine lost a hard fought mixed doubles finals to Hoo Pang Ron & Cheah Yee See.
