Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty maintained their upward momentum in the BWF World Rankings for Men’s Doubles as they rose to #7 following their exploits in Fuzhou, China. The push towards the summit of the world rankings augurs well for this exciting Indian pair with the Olympics 2020 qualifications just inching over the halfway mark. Satwik/Chirag are ranked 6th in the Olympics qualifications race.

In the race for the qualification for the season ending World Tour Finals, Satwik & Chirag moved into the top 20. Although a top eight finish is still some distance away, don’t count it against them in this red-hot form as the season draws to a close.

Meanwhile, B Sai Praneeth made it into the top 10 of the men’s singles ranking for the first time in his career, moving up from his previous best 11th world ranking. Compatriot Kidambi Srikanth, who has been blighted by injuries recently, dropped down three places to #13 and Sameer Verma moved up a place to #16 to round-off the men’s singles top 20 for India.

Sai is also the top Indian in the Tokyo Qualifications race and is in a shout for qualification for the world tour finals alongside Parupalli Kashyap.

In the women’s singles, PV Sindhu maintains her ranking just outside the top 5 with a 6th place finish while Saina Nehwal is also in the top 10 with a world ranking of #9. Sindhu is also in contention for an automatic Olympics berth, ranking 6 in the Race to Tokyo rankings.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy remained just outside the top 25 in the women’s doubles rankings. They are currently ranked #26 in the world rankings and #29 in the race to the Olympics category. Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha Ram are the next best placed team in the rankings at #43 in the world and #40 in the Olympics qualifications.

In the Mixed Doubles, Satwik Sairaj & Ashwini Ponnappa moved up three places to become the top ranked Indian team at #27, just ahead of the #28 ranked team – Pranav Jerry Chopra & Sikki Reddy. The places are reversed in the Olympics qualifications race as Pranav/Sikki are ranked at 32 and Satwik/Ashwini at #34.
