The Hyderabad Open Badminton 2020 has been cancelled due to the ongoing Corona Virus Pandemic by the Badminton World Federation. A Super 100 level tournament, Hyderabad Open was slated to be the first tournament on resumption of the BWF Calendar, which has been suspended since the end of the March 2020. The Australian Open & Korea Masters are two of the other tournaments to have been cancelled alongside the Hyderabad Open.

Meanwhile, the German Open, Swiss Open and the European Masters have been suspended for now and a new date will be informed at a later stage. However, the fate of these tournaments and other tournaments continues to remain in a limbo until both the global pandemic and global travel restrictions are eased.

“The fast-changing landscape of the COVID-19 situation has meant that BWF and its Member Association hosts have maintained frequent communication to determine the feasibility of staging each tournament on a case-by-case scenario, based on the latest information from local authorities,” the world body said in the latest release.

BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund remarked that the circumstances have and will continue to change in certain countries and territories and therefore BWF may be required to make further updates to the status of tournaments as and when necessary.

“These changes announced today are necessary but do not directly impact the new BWF Tournament Calendar 2020, which was created to allow for changes as part of our framework for badminton’s potential return,” added Lund.

He also thanked the Member Association hosts for their patience, cooperation and consultation in this process, while adding that the changes consistent with the regulations of local health authorities, and international and domestic travel restrictions.
