Indian Badminton created history by winning first ever gold in the Mixed-Team Badminton event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, after defeating three-time defending champion Malaysia with 3-1 in the finals on Monday.
Ashwini Ponnappa, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Kidambi Srikanth, Chirag Shetty, and Saina Nehwal staged well in the summit clash.
World No. 2 Kidambi Srikanth defeated World No. 6 Lee Chong Wei, for the first time, in the marquee clash and the crowd went frenzy at the Carrara Sports Arena 2.
Celebrations poured in when Saina Nehwal defeated Soniia Cheah with 21-11, 19-21, 21-9. She embraced the teammates with euphoria after the match.
After the momentous achievement, the players expressed their joy through social media posts.
