Indian doubles coach Kim Tan Her, the Malaysian, was seen with a gleam of triumph in his eyes when the Indian team toppled Malaysia with 3-1 in the Mixed-Team finals event at 2018 Commonwealth Games on Monday.

The emanation of winning spirit happened when the mixed doubles players Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy grabbed first point in the finals of the mixed-team event, and this boosted the confidence for the Indians to win their first-ever team gold.

Kim, who has been the doubles coach for India since December 2015, has shaped Indian badminton doubles on a good stride, and has been guiding the players towards the podium.

The biggest accomplishment emerged after his take-over is at Syed Modi International 2017 in the mixed doubles category.

The strategies, the training sessions, and fitness regimen, everything has been modelled in his way, which players trusted and delivering well on the court than before.

“I’m mystified by what happen to Malaysians in the finals, who were my favourites,” said Kim, “They were leading but got stuck in the game,” as quoted the saying by The Star Online.

“I expected a better fight from them (Malaysians), who lacked ideas. I told our players to grab this opportunity of the situation and they did.”

“I give instructions on what is important for the doubles and explain to them why I do it. They respect me for my experience and coaching style,” said Kim Her, who has two assistant coaches.

“We formed Satwik-Ashwini just six months ago and they have done well. Malaysia and England will still be our main challengers in the individual competitions,” he added.
