Iskandar in trouble for Smoking in the Hotel Room during Badminton Tournament

Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, the Malaysian singles badminton player get himself into a difficult situation. During the Thomas Cup Finals, Iskandar was accused of smoking, which has created troubles for his career. According to the leads, the two players Iskandar and Mohd Arif Abdul Latif were interrogated for the igniting in the hotel room. A bill was received which was importuning compensation for the petty loss and damage, affected the room which was being shared by the two Malaysian players. The hotel was allotted to the Malaysian team, in Bangkok.

 

Both of the players were among the members of the Thomas Cup Team and in the previous month, unfortunately, their team was whipped out in the quarter-finals. Played as a singles player, Iskandar was unable to win the match which was held against Denmark. The Malaysian players who hold world no 50, are now a holding the 3rd rank and are following Lee Zii Jee and World No. 7 Lee Chong Wei, the badminton starters who are under the guidance of Datuk Misbun Sidek, the singles coach.

 

On the other hand, in a trimming exercise on Monday, Aris was discarded from the team of men’s doubles which was led by Cheah Soon Kit.

 

On April, Mr. Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria, the president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia has also announced that gambling, betting and smoking by any sports personnel, being in a national team, will not be tolerated by the association. In previous times also, a student was banned for the duration of 3 months from the Bukit Jalil Sports, for gambling.

 

In April, during the Commonwealth Games, which was held in the Gold Coast, the absence of the VIPs was noticed while the bronze-medal match was in progress. The Malaysian doubles shuttlers unleashed their disappointment towards the VIPs on the social media platform, Instagram. When the BAM gets to know about this matter, a memo was dispatched for the two shuttlers, as it does not tolerate any issues in the disciplinary and pride of the country and association.

 

The whole scenario of the smoking of the two shuttlers was rolled up last week, during the meeting of the BAM’s training and coaching committee, yet the decision of the association is still unclear. A personal meeting was also arranged among the players and the associates of the Badminton Association of Malaysia. Still the decision is quite unsure that whether the players should be punished, or should they get a warning for not performing such activities in future.


At the CNT meeting, which was held last week, it was informed by one of the member of the BAM council, that the smoking incident was proven, although no strong decision has been taken till now. He also added that all the associated members of the CNT is foreseen to assemble during the Malaysian Open, which is being held from June 26 to July 1st at the Axiata Arena, as it would be a good time to dispute the smoking matter and take a firm decision on it.

 

The new CNT chairman, Datuk Ng Chin Chai stated that the smoking case has showed the indiscipline and the committee has propelled its stand to the players on such series issues of gambling and smoking. On the recent matter, a strong and firm decision will be made the occasion of Hari Raya. He also added that even after conveying the dangerous outcomes so many times, players do not learn, and the committee do not want such incidents to happen again and so to exempt players from smoking, the committee will arrange tests. Such tests have also been organised in the past and definitely they will be beneficial in the future.
