The players who will represent the Malaysian squad are finalized by the Badminton Association of Malaysia. The squad will assemble on the court at the Indonesian Asian Games commencing from 18th August to Sept 2nd. Liew Daren, men’s singles shuttler is also in the Malaysian squad. Earlier the BAM decided to fulfil the absence of the ace shuttler Lee Chong by giving a chance to Cheam June Wei. The legendary shuttler, Lee Chong withdraws from the championships because of illness.

However, at the last moment, the member of association changed their mind after noticing his immense efforts and performance at the World Championships at Nanjing next week. Daturk Seri Norza Zakaria, president of BAM, at the Wisma OCM has confirmed the inclusion of Daren. He said that Daren will play for the individual team as well as team events.

He stated that Daren has made a commitment to the BAM and will join the association for training for a week, before heading Jakarta.

Daren is on cloud nine since he has learned about this news. He said that; he was surprised because this decision by BAM was not anticipated. He is definitely delighted that his hard work was recognized, however, the Indonesian Games will be his prime responsibility. The 2012 French Open Champion is all set to accept the challenges and cross the hurdles that will come in his way. He said that he would put all his efforts to win a point for Malaysia.

For the team event, many other players are also included in the 10-man squad, including Soong Joo Ven, Goh V Shem, Leong Jun Hao, Ong Yew Sin, Chan Peng Soon, Tan Wee Kiong, Teo Ee Yi and Goh Soon Huat.

The performance of doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik has been fantastic in the previous championships. The duo also reached to the last eight, however, BAM has not changed its decision to replace the Men’s doubles lined-up pairs.

The national team is also cherishing the reunion of Goh Liu Ying for the Indonesian Asian Games. The Mixed doubles shuttler, Goh Liu Ying suffered from an injury on her Achilles heel while playing at the World Championships at China. Liu Ying is recovering fast and her path to land on the Indonesian courts is clear.

After the MRI scan, it was confirmed by the NSI that the injury hasn’t torn any of her ligaments and she can play as soon as she recovers.

Lui Ying is happy and all excited to pursue her next target. At the Asian Games, the shuttler is expected to land on the court as a determined warrior.
