The Indian badminton team started off for the Sudirman Cup 2019 in Nanning, China late in the evening yesterday and is expected to mount a strong challenge in the biennial event. The team consists of the likes of Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth, Sameer Verma, Satwik Sairaj, Pranaav Jerry Chopra, Sikki Reddy amongst others.
With a full-strength squad and some tough training regime put into the preparation, the team is confident of good results at the Sudirman Cup. The tournament kicks off on Sunday with matches from Group 2, while India is placed in Group 1D with China and Malaysia. While the group is indeed a tough one, the Indian shuttlers remain confident of progress.
In group 1, top two teams from each of the subgroups will quality for the knockout quarterfinals phase. India plays Malaysia in their first group encounter on the 21st of May 2019.
