Sikki Reddy has returned a negative result for Corona Virus, in the second test that was conducted yesterday at a private hospital in Hyderabad. This ends a couple of days of anxiety and uncertainty for the ace Indian shuttler who first turned a positive test in a SAI-conducted test earlier this week.
Alongside Sikki, physio Kiran Challagundla also returned a negative test having tested positive earlier in the week.
Posting an image of her test result on social media, Sikki said, “I got my second test done with the help of BAI, SAI & PGBA. Here it goes it’s negative!”
Sports Authority of India also released a statement on the developments which said, “Shuttler Sikki Reddy and Physiotherapist Kiran C, who were part of the Badminton National Camp at Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad and had tested positive for Covid-19, took the RT PCR test again, and both have tested negative.”
Given that both the shuttler and the physio had been completely asymptomatic, it was decided to do a second test on them, said the statement from SAI.
Following the tests, the academy went into a shutdown mode for sanitization and the week-long training for the Olympic group came to an abrupt halt. Now the same will resume once again from Monday.
"Since all campers are now Covid negative, we have decided to go ahead with the camp, following all the SOPs. Training will resume at the academy from Monday, August 17," added Chief National Coach P Gopichand.
In addition to the sharing her test results, Sikki added that neither she nor her parents and immediate primary contacts have had any symptoms, since or prior to her tests.
Expressing her gratitude for all the support she’s had over the last couple of days, Sikki thanked all her supporters and well-wishers who’ve expressed solidarity with her and sent her good wishes.
Sikki also thanked the association, SAI and the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy for their support & help in getting a second test done, which thankfully cleared her of any corona virus infection.
