PV Sindhu will participate in the upcoming Thomas & Uber Cup in Arhus, Denmark. The world champion agreed participate in the tournament, following a discussion with the President of the Badminton Association of India, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Breaking the news on Twitter, the President said, “I have requested Sindhu to join the team as we have a favourable draw and have the best chance to take a shot at a medal at the Thomas & Uber Cup.”
Sindhu had earlier decided to skip the tournament due to personal reasons, which were later revealed to be a family commitment.
“She has agreed and will prepone her family function so that she can be part of the Indian Team and play for the country,” added the BAI President.
This comes as a huge boost to the Indian Team’s chances of win at the tournament, which will kickstart the international calendar – brought to a grinding halt by the corona virus pandemic since mid-March this year.
Sindhu has been given permission to attend to her personal commitments and will join her teammates directly in Denmark on the 30th of September. This will allow her to tend to all the medical formalities and be in readiness for the tournament.
She will also undergo separate training at the SAI-Gopichand Academy in the interim, while the rest of the Indian teammates undergo a camp that concludes on the 17th of this month.
This news comes as a huge roar of joy for the Indian fans as well as the tournament organizers!
