India’s top ranked shuttler B Sai Praneeth has pulled out of the Thomas Cup in Arhaus, Denmark as well as the Denmark Open-I and Denmark Open-II Super 750 tournaments which will follow!
Bronze medalist at the World Champions, Praneeth had to make the tough call because of a knee problem that has been troubling him for the last one month. He expressed his sadness at the turn of events.
“Though I started training from August 7, this problem is persisting. That is why I pulled out of the Thomas Cup,” explained Sai Praneeth.
The ace singles player remains confident of being back on court for the Asian leg of the BWF World Tour, slated for the month of November.
“Most probably I would be competing in the Asian leg events in November.
“I need to take care of my fitness as I have to perform well in the Olympic qualification events scheduled to be held from January,” said the Arjuna Awardee.
Sai currently remains the highest ranked Indian in the BWF World Rankings at #13 and is also the highest ranked Indian in the Race to Tokyo Rankings, which will determine qualifications for the now-postponed Tokyo Olympics.
The pullout comes as a crucial blow to the Indian team who will look to make progress into the knockout stages, having missed out in 2018.
