Praising the successful works of Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), former All England champion said that sports federations should learn from the BCCI on how to popularise the sport, instead of criticizing them.
Padukone at the sidelines of the SJAN-Raisoni Achievers annual award function, jointly organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur and Raisoni Group, in Nagpur, said, “Instead of criticising BCCI, the sports federation should follow them to spread their game.”
The badminton legend said that emphasizing the 3 D’s - Discipline, Dedication, and Determination, will definitely excel anyone in a sport. “To become outstanding sportsperson one has to make a lot of sacrifices. It is very difficult to maintain a balance between games and academics. Therefore the players have to become an expert in time management also.”
Contented with the current situation of wide opportunities in other sports than cricket, he said, “There was a time when only cricketers used to excel but now the situation has changed.”
