Srikanth, Sindhu and Gopichand accoladed at TOISA 2018

World no 3 Kidambi Srikanth and World no. 4 P.V. Sindhu are among the winners at the 2018 Mahindra Scorpio Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) to join Jasprit Bumrah, Pankaj Advani, Harmanpreet Singh, Savita Punia, Heena Sidhu and Ankur Mittal in Mumbai, which honoured the nest performance in Indian sport in 2017.


Srikanth’s remarkable year of winning four Super Series titles in one calendar-year pocketed him with the top prize of Sportsperson of the year besides Jury’s Choice for Badminton Player of the Year (Male). While, Sindhu is accoladed with Badminton Player of the Year (Female) after winning two Super Series titles, a silver medal at the Badminton World Championships and another at the BWF World Super Series Finals.


Dronacharya Award winner Pullela Gopichand received the Mentor of the Year award, Indian tennis icon Vijay Amritraj, who during his professional career beat the world's best was the recipient of the TOISA Lifetime Achievement Award, while Anil Kumble was honored with Coach of the Year Award.


Other best sportspersons who received the honour at the third version of TOISA are Winning Cricketer of the Year were Bumrah, who last year soared to No 1 in the ICC rankings for T20Is and third place in ODIs, star allrounder Harmanpreet Kaur for her starring role for the Indian team that reached the final of the ICC Women's World Cup. Tennis champion Stefan Edberg was present as the mentor at the event.


In another male-female winner list, hockey champions Harmanpreet Singh and Savita Punia, and shooters Sidhu and Mittal received the honor.


Varun Bhati was proclaimed as Para-athlete of the Year, making it two TOISA wins in a row.
