Interview with Chamundeshwari Nath: Players like Aakarshi Kashyap and Gayathri are getting a platform to showcase their skills and talent Globally

On a fine Monday morning, at the Grand Finale ceremony of the All India Sub Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament, Mr. Chamundeshwari Nath, the Vice President, Badminton Association of Telangana was present for the Prize distribution ceremony. We were astounded to meet the vision behind the sports progressor of Hyderabad who is known for his philanthropic deeds and successful campaigns to promote the young talent in and around Hyderabad.


In a quick candid interview with our Editor-In-Chief, Mr. Chamundeshwari Nath spilled the beans and shared his insights:


Q. What are your thoughts on the ongoing All-India Sub Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament?


A. Now, the BAI is taking initiatives of promoting the emerging young talent by organizing such tournaments for the upcoming champions. Earlier, the BAI used to select players from the Indian Badminton team for the international badminton tournaments but with the participation of brilliant talent including the likes of Aakarshi Kashyap and Gayathri Gopichand, BAI is providing a prominent platform and exposure for the aspiring badminton players to come forth and showcase their skills to the world.

 

Q. How has Indian badminton matured over the years in terms of infrastructure, training, equipment’s and quintessential facilities?


A. It is very very competitive now with the emergence of new winners into the landscape and gradual improvement in performance has been witnessed. About 100 coaching and training facilities have opened in and around Hyderabad which has led to a booming interest of families enrolling their children for the sports and the youth following it religiously.

 

Q. What initiatives have been taken by the Indian Government to promote all the sports?


A. Khelo India is one of the most successful and grand sporting campaign led by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to foster and revive the sports culture at a grass-root level in India by developing a strong framework for all sports and establishing India as a great sporting country.

 

Q. Hyderabad Open’18 is an international event organized by the BWF, what is your take on it?


A. Hyderabad is a great hub for badminton enthusiasts and aficionados, it is attracting fresh and amazing talent from in and around the city. The BWF-led event is indeed a game changing event for badminton, we wish to see a lot of international events in the future. And of course, Hyderabad Open will be bigger, better and brilliant.
