Independence Day Tournament: Mehvish and Tahir clinched the titles

The KP Badminton Association and Directorate of Sports KP organized the KP Independence Day Badminton Tournament on Thursday. The tournament was held at Indoor Wadood Hall in Pakistan. The trophies were clinched by Mehvish and Tahir of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police.


On the occasion, many important personalities were present. The chief guest was Malik Wajid Khan who is a Member of Provincial Assembly, Junaid Khan the Director General Sports KP, Haji Muhammad Amajd Khan the Secretary KP Badminton Association along with Niamat Ullah Khan the Director Development. Many players and administrative officers were also present at the occasion.


The title of the Men’s Singles was grabbed by Tahir Khan as he foiled the International Level player Zuhaib Khan in three sets of the game with a 19-21, 21-18, 21-19.


Tahir lost the inaugural game but managed to make a strong comeback and defeated his opponent in the second game with a 21-18. In the decider game, both the shuttlers flaunted some amazing overhead smashes as well as cross court smashes, however, Khan lost it to Tahir at 21-19. Zuhaib Khan has represented Pakistan in Dubai, Qatar, Thailand and Malaysia. Undoubtedly, Khan is a great performer and current Under-18 National Champion.


In the Women’s Singles, former KP No 1 Urooj Khan was whipped out by Mehvish in the three-battle game, with the final scoreline of 23-21, 22-24, 21-19.


The match was absolutely thrilling, and the fight was tough, however, Mehvish managed to vanquish her senior rival.


The category of Under-17 had Daniyal as a winner. He knocked out Shahan in just two games at 21-18 and 21-19. The match was challenging for both the shuttlers.


Before the wind-up, the chief guest Malik Wajid Khan gave away the prizes and title trophies to the winner participants. The current national Under-16 champion, Qari Adnan received a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 along with a full kits bag by the DG Sports. He was chosen to be awarded for his immense efforts and amazing performance as he became the national champion. The full kit was availed with, including rackets, shirt, shoes and track-suits and it was also bestowed to the junior champion Ihtisham and Hamza, the Under-19 national champion. Both Ihtisham and Hamza hail from Peshawar.
