BWF Hyderabad Open 2018 LIVE: Pranaav and Sikki Break the Opening

 India’s top mixed doubles duo Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy cruised into the next round at the ongoing BWF Super 100 Hyderabad Open 2018 on Wednesday at the G.M.C Balayogi SATS Indoor Stadium, Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

 

The top seeds thrashed the unseeded Indians Nishant Dua and Mayuri Yadav with 21-7, 21-10 in just 19 minutes.

 

“It is a really amazing feeling to play on the home-ground after very long. Junior players in the doubles discipline doing really well,” said Pranaav to GoBadminton after the match.

 

“It gives immense joy as Hyderabad stages the BWF tournament; who previously chose the city for the prestigious World Championship in 2009. It is a good platform for the emerging talent,” he added.

 

On asking about second round on his birthday on September 6th, Sikki replied, “The victory would be his gift.”

 

The court here at the stadium is filled with diversified players striving for the title. It is delightful to watch all the senior and junior players playing side-by-side.

 

While in another Mixed Doubles match, B Sumeeth Reddy and Arathi Sara Sunil defeated Li Kuen Hon and Wu Yi Ting of Hong-Kong in 28 minutes.

 

After initial hiccups, the duo cruised to the breather with the lead of 11-6, before Li/Wu pair reached the deficit at 17-17 in the first game, while in the second game, the Indian pair trailing at 11-13, scored 6 consecutive points and went down the wire to secure the berth in the next round.

 

Meanwhile, the fourth seeds Saurabh Sharma and Anoushka Parikh lost the challenge in three sets with 21-19, 16-21,11-21 against Chung Yonny and Tsang Wing Chiu Avery of Hong-Kong in the match that lasted for 53 minutes.

 

The seventh seeds, Shivam Sharma and S Ram Poorvisha of the Mixed Doubles discipline, entered the second round of the mains after defeating the compatriots Navaneeth Bokka and Sahithi Bandi with 21-12, 25-23.

The six-day long tournament will have it’s finals on 9th September.
