The latest news on the former coach Vimal Kumar is associated with the Sports Ministry of India. It is revealed that the Ministry has nominated Vimal Kumar and the ex-athlete Ashwini Nachappa to join the selection committee for the Arjuna Award and Khel Ratna Award, this year. The selection process will be led by Indermeet Kaul Kochhar, Retd. Delhi High Court Judge Justice. He will be joined by three elevated sports journalists.

Nachappa revealed that she got a verbal proposal to join the selection committee; however, the former badminton player is waiting to get an official response from the Ministry of Sports.

“Yes, I have received a verbal invitation from the ministry and more than willing to be a part of the committee. But I am still awaiting the official mail,” as quoted in the Indian Express.

The former shuttler and coach, Vimal Kumar have also confirmed about the invitation of joining the selection committee but he hasn’t decided anything yet.

According to the latest news, the selection committee can have a meeting near mid-September, in order to choose the award winners of this year.

The National Sports Award, that is usually scheduled on 29th August, on the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, is shifted to 25th Sept. This is due to a shift tradition, as the Award day was clashing with the Asian Games.
