As the caravan of the HSBC BWF World Tour rolls along, we’re fast coming on the next station – the Yonex-Sunrise India Open to be held in New Delhi from the 26th of March 2019. A brand-new venue for the event, the Indira Gandi International Stadium, promises some exciting badminton action for the five days of the tournament.

PV Sindhu will be particularly keen to go deep into the tournament and kick her year into a higher gear. Following the disappointing exit at the semi-final stage of the Premier Badminton League, Sindhu has a few mixed results resulting leading up to the India Open. She looked in ominous touch at the Indonesian Masters but came-up against Carolina Marin in the QFs, before a tough draw saw her squaring up against Sung Ji Hyun at the All England Championships.

A run up to the finals and a silver medal at the 74th Senior Nationals at Guwahati, would have been a great result for many others, but for someone of the stature of PV Sindhu, she would obviously be disappointed at losing out on the finals to compatriot Saina Nehwal.

And so here are, at the premier Indian badminton tournament in the capital of the country with a huge Indian contingent and who’s who of Indian badminton in attendance. The Yonex Sunrise India Open is the perfect place for PV Sindhu to register her first title win of the season.

She’s won the tournament before, knows how to do it on the big stage and has a relatively good draw to boot. She’s not going to be playing a seeded player until the Quarter Finals and will have to deal with the likes of Beiwen Zhang or He Bingjiao until the Semi-Finals.

On her day, everyone knows that PV Sindhu is capable of taking down the very best and all of the nation, will be hoping that she will bring her A game to the India Open and take the title that her fans so desperately want her to!
