Second seed PV Sindhu & third seed Kidambi Srikanth will lead the Indian contingent of men’s & women’s singles at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open in New Delhi. Being played at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium, after a gap of eight years, the tournament will also feature a sizeable Chinese contingent – lead by the top seeds Shi Yuqi and Chen Yufei in the men’s & women’s singles respectively.

In the men’s singles category, defending champion and winner of the Swiss Open last week – Shi Yuqi will lead the Chinese challenge, with as many as five players in the main draw. The Indian team also has a sizeable presence with the likes of Sameer Verma, HS Pranoy, Ajay Jayram, Parupalli Kashyam and Sai Praneeth all vying to go deep into the tournament.
Number two seeded Victor Axelsen and fourth seeded Tommy Sugiarto, will provide some stiff resistance to both the Indian and Chinese challengers.

All England winner Chen Yufei headlines the women’s singles with He Bingjiao & Han Yeu – also amongst the seeds. There is a strong Indian contingent with Sindu seeded second and Saina seeded fifth. While the likes of Vrushali Gummadi, Sai Uttejitha Rao and Mugdha Rey will be the unseeded players, hoping to be the giant-killers.

Men’s Doubles will see the return of Satwik Sairaj from an injury layoff, as he partners Chirag Shetty. They are seeded in third and would like to make a strong start to the tour. In the main draw are also sixth seeds Manu Attri & Sumeeth Reddy as well as eleven other pairs, making Men’s Doubles the best Indian represented evens at the Open.

Ashwini Ponnappa & Sikki Reddy are unseeded in the women’s doubles but will be the best bet for India, with Meghana Jakkampudi/S Ram Poorvisha and Pooja Dandu/Sanjana Santosh also looking to progress into the further rounds.

The mixed doubles line-up has Satwik Sairaj/Ashwini Ponnappa as the highest Indian seeds at #8, with Pranav Jerry Chopra/Sikki Reddy also strong contenders. Sourabh Sharma/Anoushka Parikh, MR Arjun/Maneesha K, Dhruv Kapila/Kuhoo Garg are some of the other pairs in the main draw.
