With just hours left to go for the Yonex-Sunrise India Open, the Chinese top seeds in the men’s & women’s categories decided to pull out of the tournament – citing fitness concerns.
Both Shi Yuqi and Chen Yufei, withdrew from the tournament and it will certainly disappoint the fans.
Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal will also be missing from the action as she pulled out due to a sudden bout of gastroenteritis and mild pancreatitis.
The withdraws now leave Viktor Axelsen and PV Sindhu as the favorites in the men’s and women’s singles respectively and both players certainly appear confident of a good show.
“The draw is exciting, although some of the top players are not here.
“But I don’t try to focus too much on the draw. I am looking playing Misha (Zilberman) in the first round,” said Axelsen.
In the women’s singles, World #7, He Bingjiao will lead the Chinese challenge and is looking forward to her duel against the Indian superstar.
“PV Sindhu has a very good level and when I play against her, I sometimes win and sometimes lose. The experience of playing Sindhu is very exciting,” Bingjiao was quoted as saying.
