Playing three matches within the span of just eight hours, Sikki Reddy won two and narrowly lost the second of the mixed doubles encounter to headline the Indian contingent’s wins on Day 2 of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Hyderabad Open, here at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium.

Top seeds Sikki Reddy combined with Pranav Jerry Chopra opened the proceedings on Court number three and demolished their opponents in two straight sets 21-9 21-8. The fact that she hardly broke any sweat in the opening matched helped her remain fresh for the second match of the day as she returned in the evening with Ashwini Ponnappa to win over Thai pair Chasinee Korepap & Kwanchanok Sudjaipraparat 21-19 21-16.

And a brief while later Sikki Reddy was back on court for the final game of the day, a mixed doubles second round match up against the Indonesian pair of Andika Ramadiansyah & Bunga Fitriani Romadhini. Having won the opening game, Sikki & Jerry lost a bit of a momentum in the second and eventually succumbed in three games.

Sikki Reddy will be back on court on the QFs day as the first match on Friday, taking on compatriots Meghana Jakkampudi & Poorvisha S Ram. The latter won their pre-quarter final match-up against Sri Lankan opponents 22-20 21-15.

In the men’s singles encounter, Sourabh Verma produced a stirring performance to win 21-16 21-11 in his match against Sun Fei Xiang. Shubankar Dey joins him in the list of Indian quarterfinalists with a 21-16 21-15 win over Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.

Yeo Jia Min, An Se Young and Porntip Buranaprasertsuk all won their respective women’s singles match-ups to advance into the quarterfinals.
