Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu will not be taking part in the Thomas & Uber Cup, slated to begin in a month’s time in Aarhus, Denmark. Citing personal reasons, the World Champion is the biggest star to withdraw from the tournament, which was also to mark the resumption of top-level badminton action after the corona virus pandemic.

Sindhu’s father PV Ramana, confirmed the news to ANI and said, “Sindhu will not be participating in the 2020 Thomas and Uber Cup due to personal reasons.”

She had returned to training earlier this month at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy earlier this month, alongside her Olympic-bound colleagues, and her pulling out of is a setback both to the chances of the Indian team as well as the tournament itself.

BAI sources also confirmed Sindhu’s unavailability for the event.
"Sindhu has informed the Badminton Association of India about her decision to skip the event because of some personal reasons," a senior BAI official was quoted as saying.

While there are no indications yet on what the personal reasons could be, health & safety could be a factor. Sindhu had originally considered returning to competitive action at the Thomas and Uber Cup but the continued scare of the coronavirus pandemic and a resurgence in cases all around could be the reason.
