Denmark continued its dominance at the European Mixed Team Championships with an Eighteenth title as they defeated the French contingent 3-0 in the finals on Sunday. In the best-of-five contest, the Danish team powered by Viktor Axelsen & Mia Blichfelt ran away easy winners on the night, with straight games wins for the singles stars.

Viktor Axelsen defeated Christo Popov 21-16 21-12 while Mia Blichfelt had a little more trouble putting aside Qui Xuefei 21-18 21-19 – to put the defending champions in clear lead and advantage.

Axelsen was particularly happy with his performance on Sunday, as he said at the post-match remarks, “Today, I was happy to play at a stable level and do what I could and managed to win in straight games, which is nice.”

Mia, meanwhile, was happy to come through the tough women’s singles encounter and accepted that she had to push herself harder today to clinch the all-important victory.

“I needed to push myself through the match today. I'm happy I won in two sets," she said.

With two wins under their belt and three matches to go, the Danish were clearly the favorites heading into the Men’s Doubles as the veteran pair – Kim Astrup/Anders Rasmussen took on the French pair – Ronan Labar/Julien Miao. Having sat out the group stages Astrup was playing in his second game of the tournament but came out all guns blazing against the French pair.

It's a good feeling to finish this week with a victory for Anders and I, and it's a good feeling to return to Denmark with a winning feeling,” said Kim Astrup after defeating the French pair 21-12 21-14 to clinch the championships for the Danish team.
