The Indian team contingent touched down in Basel and have commenced preparation for the upcoming Swiss Open. The team consisting of PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and doubles specialists Sikki Reddy/Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwik Sairaj/Chirag Shetty alongside a contingent of coaches of support staff will be ramping up their preparation for the upcoming tournaments in Europe, starting with the Super 300 tournament in Switzerland.

With the Olympic qualifications heating up and uncertainty surrounding future tournaments, the competition is expected to be fierce in the northwestern Swiss town. While PV Sindhu & B Sai Praneeth, alongside Satwik/Chirag have almost secured their Olympic berths, others such as Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal, Sikki/Ashwini will be looking to further their chances with impressive performances.

Srikanth will look to do an encore of his win in 2015, while Saina Nehwal had won back-to-back titles leading up to her 2012 Olympics bronze medal. Sameer Verma & HS Pranoy have also been previous winners at the Swiss Open and will be keen to put up an impressive performance.

However, the draw hasn’t quite been kind to the Indian team with several of them pitted against each other or playing tough opponents in the opening rounds.

In addition to the Indian team, the Swiss Open will also have some high-profile names return to competitive badminton following the corona virus break. The Japanese contingent which missed the Asian leg of the BWF Tour, will feature in the main draw with Kento Momota being the top draw.
