World Senior Badminton Championship: Anthony and Kanetkar progresses to next round

Second seeded Indian, Joy T. Anthony beat Seneka Attanayake of Sri Lanka with a convincing 21-6, 21-4 win in just 16 minutes. With this win, the Indian entered second round in the men’s singles +40 age category at the Manorama BWF World Senior Championships.

 

The former National Games Champion will face Joost Van Den Brande of Belgium in his next round.

 

In +35 men’s singles category, Former Olympian Nikhil Kanetkar made jolting start by passing Konstantin Myakishev by 21-5, 23-21 in 24 minutes to enter second round. In his next round, he will face Oliver Colin of Switzerland.

 

Pankaj Bhart in +45 men’s singles category, retired midway in the round one allowing Jaison Xavier to play against Sebastian Grad of France in the next round.

 

C.M. Shasidhar got past Vegar Naess 21-5, 21-4 of Norway to qualify for the round of 16 in the men's singles +40 age category. He will take on number one seeded Lars Klintrup of Denmark.

 

In women’s singles competition, Swati Chauhan won her first round robin match in group C against Karine Barbot of France in the +35 age category.
