Indian badminton contingent is promised with a medal at the ongoing 2018 Commonwealth Games in the individual events at Gold Coast.

The unstoppable Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Ashwini Ponnappa progressed into semi-finals to secure the berth in the finals.

No Trouble in Doubles

India’s top women’s doubles duo, N Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa, defeated  Hasini Ambalangodage and Madushika Dilrukshi Beruwelage of Sri Lanka with 21-11, 21-13 in just 26 minutes.

While, men’s doubles young duo Satwik and Chirag have been doing well with their snapping chemistry, who outplayed the Malaysians Peng Soon Chan and Soon Huat Goh in the three game rubber with 21-14, 15-21, 21-9 in the quarter-finals, to assure a medal in the next rounds.

Meanwhile, the mixed doubles duo Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy will have to outplay Chang Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying of Malaysia in the round-of-8 match to face either the English pairs Gabrielle Adcock and Chris Adcock or Ellis Marcus and Smith Lauren in the semi-finals.

The senior-junior duo Ashwini and Satwiksairaj will face Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jamie of Malaysia to assure the medal in the next round.

Saina and Sindhu Clash

The 2010 CWG gold medallist Saina Nehwal, have been performing well; the former world no. 1 ousted Rachel Hondedich of Canada with 21-8, 21-13 in the quarter finals match, to face Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland.

If Saina gets through in the semi-finals match by defeating Kirsty, there are high chances of a Saina-Sindhu clash in the finals, if Sindhu also defeats Brittney Tam of Canada in the semi-finals match later today.

In another women’s singles match, Ruthvika Shivani Gadde had to make an unfortunate exit from the quarter-finals match, during the first game against Kirsty Gilmour.

Mighty Men, Prannoy-Lee Chong Wei meet?

The new world no. 1 Srikanth Kidambi is unstoppable, who ousted Zin Rei Ryan Ng of Singapore with 21-15, 21-12 in just 34 minutes of the men’s singles quarter-finals. The Indian will face Rajiv Ouseph of England in the next round.

While, HS Prannoy is yet to get through the round-of-8 match against Dinuka Karunaratna of Sri Lanka.

If Prannoy defeats Dinuka in the quarter-finals, the world no. 11, who defeated the legend Lee Chong Wei twice previously - at Denmark Open and Indonesia Open last year - will have another meeting in the semi-finals at 2018 CWG.
