CWG 2018: Pranaav-Sikki ends campaign, Satwik-Chirag into semis

India’s top mixed doubles pair Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy ended their campaign in the individual event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast on Friday.


The Indians, who helped India to win gold in the Mixed-Team event, couldn’t maintain the stride. They lost to Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh of Malaysia with 17-21, 12-21 in the 38-minute contest of the quarter-finals match.


While, women’s doubles N Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa thrashed Hasini Ambalangodage and Madushika Dilrukshi Beruwelage of Sri Lanka with 21-11, 21-13 in just 26 minutes. The duo will now face Chow Mei Kuan and Hoo Vivian of Malaysia in the semi-finals contest.


Men’s doubles young duo Satwik and Chirag have been doing well with their snapping chemistry, who outplayed the Malaysians Peng Soon Chan and Soon Huat Goh in the three game rubber with 21-14, 15-21, 21-9 in the quarter-finals, to assure a medal in the next rounds.


The senior-junior duo Ashwini and Satwiksairaj will face Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jamie of Malaysia in the quarter-finals face off.
