Badminton Asia Championship 2018: Sindhu lost to Sung in Quarters

PV Sindhu lost in the quarter-finals match at the Badminton Asia Championship 2018 after losing to the seventh seeded Sung Ji Hyun of Korea in China.


Third seeded Indian ended the campaign at the tournament with 21-19, 21-10 in the 44-minute encounter in Wuhan.


Indian grabbed the early lead in the opening game with 2-0, but sooner Sung levelled it at 2-2. Sindhu gained four consecutive points to lead by the break with 11-9 and continued the dominance till 15-12, from where Sung picked herself up slowly by scoring five straight points and caught her opponent at 16-16. The players reached 19-19 and it was Sung who saved the game with 21-19.


In the second game, Sindhu gained the first point before the seventh seeded Korean surged to lead the game, with the most of seven straight points with 18-9.


Sung gave no chance to Sindhu for the comeback and sealed the game to progress into semi-finals.


In another Women’s Singles match, Saina Nehwal ousted the Korean Lee Chang Mi comfortably, but will have tough match ahead in semis, likely, with the strongest Tai Tzu Ying - if she defeats He Bingjiao - in the Quarters.


In the Men’s Singles match, India’s Kidambi Srikanth lost to the Malaysian star Lee Chong Wei with 12-21, 15-21 in the Quarter-Finals match. CWG 2018 gold medallist Lee excelled well throughout the game comfortably as Srikanth played into former’s hand with series of unforced errors.
