During the recent Thomas Cup finals, Malayasian veteran badminton player Lee Chong Wei won straight victories against the World No. 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and Anthony Ginting of Indonesia.

The President of Badminton Association of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria, paid a special tribute to the 35-year-old Lee Chong Wei who’s an experienced yet talented player for exhibiting such a benevolent act during the Thomas Cup Finals.

Norza expressed his gratitude as he addressed the audience that Lee Chong Wei has done his job by defeating the world champions Victor Axelson and Anthony Ginting at such a tender age. He further added that Malaysia needs to search for his replacement and even though he was happy to see the fresh players like Lee Zii Jia, Leong Jun Hao and Aaron Chia-Teo Ee Yi, they gave quite a good fight to their opponents, however, did not manage to deliver.

I’m sorry we lost in the quarter-finals. I’m not blaming anyone. Our opponents were better and we accept the defeat. But I’m happy we saw the players for the future in the team,” said Norza.

“We’ll rely on new players from now on. Zii Jia and Aaron are new faces, they played well but lost (against Indonesia) because of pressure.“They’ve gained experience and we’ll continue to invest on them,” he said.

The South East Asia that has given the sport quite a good number of badminton players shall continue to do so. We’re so looking forward to Zii Jia and Aaron to create a history and embark the sport to greater heights.
