Ajay Jayaram, who is the former India No. 1 men’s singles shuttler, strove hard for the first-round win at the 2018 Yonex US Open in Fullerton by showing meticulous care in each of his step taken. Within fifty-five minutes, Jayaram kept the challenge of the 371st ranked Yun Kyu Lee at bay, 26-24, 17-21, 21-13 in an enthralling period of time.

In fact, Jayaram is the only Indian to win on Day 2. In women’s singles, Anura Prabhudesai lost her opener. She failed to hold the success against Honderich, who closed out the 21-9, 21-17 win in just 32 minutes.

The duo, Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy, gave a walkover to the Indonesian pair of Rahmat Adianto and Rangga Yave Rianto in Men’s doubles.

However, for Ajay Jayaram, it was one crucial and indispensable win as his hamstring injury has been onerous in the past. Being a former World No. 13, he was forced to experience a rough patch as he missed many tournaments last year.
