US Open'18: The 30-Year-Old Unseeded Indian Shuttler Gives a Good Run Against Seeded Caljouw

Ajay Jayaram ends the good run at the 2018 US Open Super 100 event after losing to the sixth seed Mark Caljouw of Netherlands with 13-21, 21-23 in the Semi-Finals match and with this, India’s campaign at the tournament ends.

 

The 30-year old once ranked as high as 13th in the BWF World Rankings, and has seen plunged down to below 100 after a hamstring injury following the World Championships last year.

 

World No. 30 Mark, won seven consecutive points in the first game to increase the deficit from Ajay in the first game, while, in the second game Mark led with 9-4 before Ajay changed the gear and made the prediction hard to choose between them.

 

The score went till 21-21, where Ajay could pull off and stretch to the third game, but it was not his day and lost to the sixth seed with 21-23.
