The recent news on PV Sindhu, the Indian Olympic queen will definitely delight every Indian's heart. Forbes, a popular business magazine, featured Sindhu as the 7th highest paid female athlete in the world and the only Indian name on the list.

Sindhu with another female athlete, Danica Patrikoften - one of the most booming female car race drivers of all time, are the only two players, who topped the list and hails from different background.

In 1973, the US Open made a bold move and advocated the right of the equal pay for both male and female players. There are many supporters around the world, who think that the idea of equal pay is legit. After decades, tennis is still the source through which a female athlete can earn more money than any other sport. There can be a reason behind it; tennis provides great income sources for those who are willing to establish their career in the sport.

However, an imbalance can be observed in the earning of male and female players during the Grand Slams.

PV Sindhu is one of the most prominent badminton stars of India. The 23-year-old won silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics and created the history. After her victory, she came to the spotlight. She has won total prize money of $500,000 and she additional earned $8 million only through the endorsements. She has captured the 7th position and it is definitely a moment of proud for all the Indians.

Forbes wrote, “The Indian badminton player burst on the scene with a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She was the first Indian female athlete to win silver. The 23-year-old has a robust sponsor roster with Bridgestone, Gatorade, Nokia, Panasonic, Reckitt Benckiser and a half-dozen other brands,” as quoted by The Bridge.

The trend of female athletes to depend more on the endorsements, compared to their salary is now a common thing. Clearly, women cannot count on sport for their needs and a change is required.
