Barcelona Spain Masters 2018: Ajay ousts sixth seed

Indian Men’s Singles shuttler Ajay Jayaram advanced into the second round after defeating the local shuttler and the sixth seed Pablo Abian with 15-21, 21-17, 21-8 in the contest of BWF World tour Super 300 tournament in 50-minutes at the Barcelona Spain Masters on Thursday.

 

The slothy onset from Ajay trailed with 0-7 and was able to score only two points by the half-time. Gradually, the Indian reduced the deficit but lost the game by the time of winning 15 points.

 

Probably that was an intention to save the energy. The Indian gave the tough fight to Pablo in the second round; led the game with 11-9 by the mid-game and never looked back to through the match to the easy decider.

 

Meanwhile, the curtains were down for all the Indians.

 

Other Men’s Singles shuttler Subhankar Dey lost to the seventh seed Israel player Misha Zilberman in the challenging three sets match with score line 20-22, 21-16, 19-21 in the match of 66-minutes, while Karan Rajan Rajarajan got thrashed by Riichi Takeshita of Japan with 11-21, 12-21.

 

In Women's Singles, Mugdha Agrey toppled by the Canadian Brittney Tam with 12-21, 13-21 in the opening match.

 

Sole survivor Ajay will now face Vladimir Malkov of Russia in the Pre-Quarters match on Thursday.
