The National Men’s Singles shuttler of Malaysia, Soong Joo Ven is among the few shuttlers of the Men’s Singles profile who outstayed and endured the chopper in the retrenchment drill that took place in June, by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

The Hyderabad Open held in India, concluded on Sunday, 9th Sept. In the event, the young and talented 23-year-old shuttler took no time to flaunt his exquisite skills. He won a silver medal in the Men’s Singles category. It was justifiable, why the Hyderabad Open 2018 Men’s Singles runner-up is a worthy candidate to get another shot.

The World No 91 fizzle out to win the title after he lost the finals against Indian shuttler Sameer Verma by 15-21, 18-21. Even though the Junior Championships 2012 silver medal winner Joo Ven failed to put an end to a six-year-long dearth of titles, he still had an impressive run at the tourney.

According to the latest news on the Malaysian Badminton player, Soong Joo Ven, his hopes are enlivened once again and the Malaysian shuttler is in the saddle to overhaul his badminton career.

As quoted on the Star online, Joo Ven said, “It was so near, yet so far for me,”

“I really wanted to win it so badly as I have not won since my Thailand International Series victory in 2012. I played so well throughout the week (in Hyderabad) but my performance in the final was a big letdown. But at least I’m making some good progress, which is very crucial after being given a second chance to remain in the national team.

“Just when I thought my days were numbered, I got picked for the Asian Games and now I have reached my first final after one year (since losing to compatriot Lee Zii Jia at the Polish International last September). But I’m still not relieved yet. For me, this runner-up finish is nothing but just a positive start. I’ll work harder and achieve better results.” the 2016 Scottish Open finalist added.

Next week, the Malaysian shuttler will be seen playing at the Indonesian Masters. The firsthand objective of Joo Ven is to register a spot in the top 50 shuttlers list.

Reaching the final in Hyderabad shows that I have the game to compete. But it’s the consistency that matters,” said Joo Ven. I have not been playing enough tournaments, too, so hopefully, this result would convince the BAM to send me to more tournaments after this.”

“I need to make at least the quarter-finals to improve on my ranking. If possible, I want to try to win a title,” Joo Ven said.
