BWF Ranking: Sameer escalated to 17th, Satwik-Chirag under top 20

The Hyderabad Open Super 100 tournament concluded last week where Sameer Verma finished as the winner of the tournament. With this tremendous victory of the Indian Badminton player, he was also rewarded on Sept 13th with a four-spot promotion in his BWF ranking revealed by the Badminton World Federation. The shuttler is now at his highest world ranking.


Verma is a top seeded player and before conquering his second title of the season; Hyderabad Open title, he also triumphed the BWF Swiss Open Super 300, in the month of February.


However, Verma is not the only player who reaped benefits after winning the BWF Hyderabad Open 2018. The Indian Men’s Doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the Doubles title at the tourney and it was their first international title in the last 18 months. According to the latest BWF ranking, the duo is now at the 18th spot after stepping up three rungs.


The pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy, who played in the Mixed Doubles failed to win the decider match, however, their explicit performance rewarded them with quite remarkable points. They also levelled up three spots and landed at the 21st Spot in the BWF World Ranking.


RMV Gurusaidutt also flaunted his talent at the tournament which reflected in his BWF world ranking. The shuttler ventured to the semi-finals and played explicitly well against his compatriot Sameer Verma. His place is levelled up to 19 spots and now he sits in the glorious 82nd position.

Talking about the Men’s Singles, the former World No 1 Srikanth Kidambi is fixed at the 8th spot whereas HS Prannoy and Sai Praneeth are at the 13th and 24th positions respectively. On the other hand, Parupalli Kashyap remains at 52nd, Sourabh Verma is at 55th, Ajay Jayaram is at 59th and Subhankar Dey is at 64th position, all are beyond the top 50.


In the Women’s Singles, the top women players show no change in their BWF ranking. Sindhu and Saina are consistent at the 3rd and 10th spot respectively.


Other Women’s Singles players; Vaishnavi Reddy Jakka is at 55th, and Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli is at 77th. On the other hand, Mugdha Agrey is at 83rd, Ruthvika Shivani Gadde is at 86th and Rasika Raje is at the 93rd position in the BWF ranking.


The Men’s Doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy, who are also the national champions have acquired the 28th spot.


The Women’s Doubles pair of Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa, who are the top Women’s Doubles of India are in the 27th position.


In the Mixed Doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are rocking at the 25th spot.
