China Open 2018 LIVE: PV Sindhu Survives Busanan Scare, Enters Quarters

Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu has entered the quarter-finals of the China Open 2018 after a fierce battle against the Thai Shuttler, world number 24 Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

 

Seeded third in the tournament, Sindhu lost the inaugural game after a neck-to-neck game with 23-21 but took control of the match thereon and held the lead to win the next two games and won the match.

 

In the second game, Sindhu maintained the lead right from the beginning at 2-1 and with 6 consecutive points, the Indian raced the lead to 8-1 and went on to 11-6 by the interval. Sindhu, without giving any chance to her opponent continued her fantastic gameplay and finished the game with 21-13 and pushed to the decider.

 

In the decider, both the players maintained their balance and played a fantastic game throughout, without giving an inch to each other. However, Sindhu took the early lead at 11-9 and with 5 consecutive points from 10-9; Sindhu took the strong lead to 15-10 and made it look easy game for her. However, the Thai shuttler with her firm attitude and strategy, without losing the smile on the face continued the game and leveled at 17-17 but couldn’t continue to win the game and lost to the Indian with 18-21.

 

The final scoreline of the match read 21-23, 21-13, 21-18 to Sindhu in 69 minutes and will play against Chen Yufei of China (or) Sung Ji Hyun of Korea in the Quarterfinals, tomorrow.
