KentoMomota Makes it to Semi Finals of German Open

A clinical performance against compatriot KantaTsuneyama put KentoMomota into the semifinals of the German Open. Momota won 21-12 21-9 to ease into the last four. He will be playing Hans-Kristian Solberg of Switzerland, who had a comparatively tougher match against Joo Ven Song. The match went the distance, but Solberg emerged triumphant with a 21-16 10-21 21-13 win.


Number three seed Kenta Nishimota will take on Tien Chen Chou in the second semifinals after both came through from their respective quarterfinal match-ups. Both players were pushed hard by their opponents but managed to sail into the semifinals.


In the women’s singles top seed Nozomi Okuhara won her quarterfinal against compatriot Aya Ohri and will go up against number three seed RatchanokIntanon. Both players had a safe passage into the semis, and so did second seed Akane Yamaguchi. Malaysian shuttlerJin Wei Goh rounds up the final four in the women’s singles.


In the men’s doubles event, the top-seeded Japanese pair of Takeshi Kamura and KeigoSonoda won their quarterfinal match to set up a semifinal against BodinIsara and ManeepongJongjit. And second seeded Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe will play the second of the last four matches against the Malaysian pair of Nur Izzuddin and Sze Fei Goh.


The women’s doubles event continues the trend of top-seeded Japanese in the last four of the German Open as Yuki Fukashima and Sayaka Hirota won comfortably in their quarterfinal match. They will take on the Chinese team – Yue Du and Li Yinhui. The second of the semifinals will see an all Japanese encounter wherein second-seeded Misaki Matsutomo& Ayaka Takahashi will take on third seeds MayuMatsutomo&WakanaNagahara.


In the mixed doubles event, top-seed Yuta Watanabe & Arisa Higashino were the only Japanese pair in contention, and they lost to Robin Tabeling& Selena Piek in a hard fought encounter. They will play the Indonesian pair – Hafiz Faizal and Gloria EmanuelleWidjaja. The Malaysian pair of Soon Huat Goh & Lai ShevonJemie will face off eighth seeds Sueng Jae Seo&ChaeYuJung to round-off the semi final lineups.
