Few players have it in them to keep you captivated, irrespective of the state or result of the game – Satwik Sairaj is one such rare phenomenon this country has produced. Built in beast mode, Satwik is not just a gifted athlete but someone who connects with the crowds and draws energy from them. He’s on court dance routines are quite the rage in themselves, and his fans can’t get enough of all the shenanigans from their beloved star.

Talking to GoBadminton on his birthday, Satwik says he’s eager to be back on the court and get back into the thick of the action but would also like a little more clarity on the resumption of competitive action from the world body. Right now, he’s back home in the idyllic town of Amalapuram in Andhra Pradesh.

“I want to come back as soon as possible. But then there’s little clarity on tournaments and I still think it’s a little risky traveling from one state to another,” informs Satwik.

Having stayed off the court for the past four months, it will take quite some work both mental & physical to get back into tournament shape says Satwik. He’s spent most of his time indoors during the lockdown with hardly any opportunity to indulge in serious workout.

He has a physically demanding game with smashes rocketing down the line with immaculate consistency and accuracy, and that takes quite rigorous hours of practice behind the scenes. And Satwik cannot just wait to get back into the thick of it.

Satwik, who turns 21 today has been quite the rage on the Indian & international badminton circuit ever since he burst on to the scene as a lanky teenager. Towering well over six feet, Satwik is easily distinguishable in a crowd and arguably has one of the most loyal fan-base of for any Indian men’s badminton players.

Talking about the birthday celebrations, he says that it’s a bit low-key this time around! An intimate and simple homemade lunch, with parents for company.

“It’s good, no complaints at all, I’ve been away a lot over the last few years and its great to be at home with mum & dad for this birthday,” signs off Satwik.
