Mongolia Junior Badminton: Purva bagged the 4th International title

The Mongolia Junior (Under-19) International Series was held at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

 

Purva Barve from Pune won her fourth International title on the trot in an All-India final clash, while Varun Kapoor was a runner-up in the tournament, in the Women's and Men's Singles matches respectively.


The top-seeded player, trains at the Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy (NKBA). In the final hustle, she encountered with her compatriot Eshita Raju of Telangana. Purva down-and-out the 16-year-old opponent in a 20-minute run with a massive lead and huge margin 21-13, 21-12. With this marvelous victory, Purva has made a record of the consecutive win of four International titles, out of which, the rest of three she acquired at Israel, Croatia, and Cyprus earlier this year.


Eshita Raju was the runner-up and brought a silver medal home, who outplayed her Thai opponent, Sarat Chueboca in the semifinals with 21-13, 14-21, 21-12.


In the Men’s section, 2nd seeded Varun Kapur played his first ever International Under-19 final, where he was overborne by the 18-year-old Korean player Han Kyeol Lee, who won the final with 21-17, 21-9. Even though Varun lost the game, he delivered a fantastic performance, in all the matches. Earlier, In the semi-finals, the Korean shuttler Tae Woong Choi went down to the 15-year-old Varun in a long-winded battle 21-12, 20-22, 21-10.


Both the shuttlers, Varun and Purva are trainees at Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy (NKBA) and are patronaged by the Kanetkar Sports Foundation.
