Sub-Junior Badminton Tournament Day 1: Hybrid Outcomes for Nagpur shuttlers

The inaugural of the Maharashtra Sub-Junior State Selection Badminton tournament was held at the Subhedar Hall and YMCA Hall on Monday. The performance of the shuttlers hailing from Nagpur was amalgamated.


Under the wardship of Maharashtra Badminton Association, the five-day tournament was organized by the Nagpur District Badminton Association. Majority of local shuttlers embarked their crusade on a delightful victorious note, while some of the Nagpur shuttlers tasted the defeat.


In the Under-15 boys’ singles category, Shashank Kulal foiled his opponent Aadya Parasnis with a 21-18, 21-13. In the next match, Shashank will bite a bullet with Vedant Kolwankar. Third-seeded Sarthak Pakhmode also levelled up in the game easily.


Ojas Gedam foiled his citymate Jaan Deshmukh. Ojas thumped him with a 21-5, 21-5 in an easy game. On the other hand, Raghav Voditel performed tremendously to outclass Swami Nimbarte 21-8, 21-5.


Aaryan Sadhankar had to play a toilsome match to overcome his strong opponent Maulik Haria. Aaryan took the lead and won the first game with a 15-12. However, in the second game, Maulik snatched the lead and Aaryan was foiled with a 9-15. The decider game was thrilling where Aaryan outclassed Maulik 15-7 and won the match.


In the Under-15 girls’ singles, the city girls, Amruta Gadekar, Aditi Dhamankar and Sophia Simon faced defeat. Amruta was brushed aside by Mansee Karekar 10-15, 15-10, 8-15. On the other hand, Aditi fought against Sayali Pathak and lost to her with 21-14, 17-21, 14-21, while Sophia couldn’t survive in the match to play a trio game and foiled by Saad Dharmadhikari with a 20-22, 19-21.


Players, including Aasavari Khandekar, Aditi Sadhankar, Pinak Rokde, Mrunmayee Pande, Taniya Patwardhan, Krisha Soni, Aditi Tadas, Kripi Sajwan, Amulya Lanjewar, Nikkita Joseph, Atika Nayse and Nishika Gokhe levelled up as they secured their victory over their respective rivals.


In the Under-19 boys’ singles, Aarav Saxena was thwarted by Jai Rajesh in an easy game. He lost to Jai by 3-15, 5-15. Meet Bajaj ousted Nagpur’s Sparsh Kawale and Jai is all set to battle against Meet in the Second round. Manit Chandak lost to Shaurya Kumar with a 15-10, 15-5, on the other hand, Parth Deskmukh overthrew Arnav Palshikar 14-15, 15-9, 15-14. Vivian Deogade edged out Nakul Londhekar with a 15-8, 13-15, 15-6.


The tournament was honoured by NDBA president Kunda Vijayakar, Mangesh Kashikar; the Secretary, Shriram Purohit; the Vice President. Other members of the association including Bhavna Agrey and Gurdeep Singh Arora were also present on the event.
