The dedication and motivation has been their prop for adding many laurels to the nation. Their disability is just the name sake; they are paralympians. Many representatives from Haryana, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu were bestowed to clinch gold medal at the National Para Badminton tournament. With their speedy footwork and forceful smashes, it was one big frenzy moment as the spectators cheered at the finalists.

World no. 1 in para-badminton, Anand Kumar from Karnataka, said,

“There is a lot more that needs to be done for Paralympians but national tournaments such as these not only help take us to the international stage but also attracts physically challenged aspiring sports persons to make their country proud.”

Parul Paramar, the world no. 1 in women's singles said,

"The media has a very important role to play and if they keep highlighting the good work that we do, and then we will be able to get more support and better facilities”

Many stories had been heard about paralympians that due to the lack of funds for their training and participation, they had to skip the important tournaments on the board. The Badminton Association of India with the Paralympic Association of India (PAI) have initiated the National Para Badminton Tournament to not only provide a platform to those who are challenged but also let them be heard and their disability seen as their ability. This year’s tournament was hosted free by the Canara Union at Malleswaram.

Trupti Murgunde, senior badminton player and national champion said, “Most of the courts in the country have been built many years ago and do not have ramps or lifts. There is a need for new-age infrastructure. For example, in the academy that I run, we have specially provided for lifts as our badminton courts are on the second floor. Support from various Govt. organizations will also help.”
