Brazil Para-Badminton’18: Sukant won Gold, Dharmai bagged silver

The Indian Para-Badminton players are contributing immensely to bring more recognition to the country. The players have performed queerly at the BWF Brazil Para-Badminton International 2018. The tournament concluded on Sunday, 12th August, where numerous players across the world joined the hustle to clinch titles in their respective categories.

 

India’s Sukant Kadam has won gold in the tournament in the Men’s Singles SL4 category. He also clinched silver along with his partner Daisuke Fujihara of Japan.

 

In the Men’s Singles SL4 category, Sukant Kadam reached to the finals and ventured against compatriot Anand Kumar Boregowda. The match proved to be tough for Anand as Sukant defeated him with a 21-14, 21-14. After defeating Tim Haller of Germany in the semi-finals by 6-21, 16-21, Sukant vanquished the German shuttler and lifted the title. Anand finishes as the runner-up in the Men’s Singles SL4 category.

 

In the DSS 6 category of Men’s Doubles, the pair of the Indian shuttler Mark Joseph Dharmai and Yohei Hatakeyama of Japan reached to the finals. In the semifinals, they knocked out the combo of Canada’s WyattLightfoot and USA’s Dawson Mcclure with a 21-5, 21-4. It was one of the easiest cruises of the pair.

 

Dharmai-Hatakeyama sailed into the finals to bite a bullet against the duo of Brazil’s Vitor Goncalves Tavares and Miles Krajewski of USA. The battle between the two pairs to clinch the title was arduous and lasted for 43 minutes. Dharmai-Hatakeyama took the lead in the first game by 21-16, but in the next game, they were stunned by their opponents with 21-17. In the third game, the combo relinquished their control over the game and the duo was defeated by 21-18. Mark Joseph Dharmai won silver in the DSS 6 category along with his partner Yohei.

 

In the Men’s Doubles SL3-SL4 category, the duo of Sukant Kadam and Daisuke Fujihara get into the finals. The duo battled against the French pair of Guillaume Gailly and Mathieu Thomas. The entire match was absolutely thrilling and unpredictable.

 

After a long hustle, Gaily-Thomas won the first game with a 25-23. In the second round, Kadam - Fujihara tool snatched the lead by 16-21. However, they lost the finals of the Men’s Doubles SL3-SL4, as their opponents won the third game 21-14. The duo of Kadam-Fujihara clawed silver as they finished runner-up.

 

We are delighted with the tremendous victory of all our Indian Para-Badminton champions.
