Tai Tzu Takes the All England Crown

Tai Tzu Ying clinched her third All England Crown as she defeated world number #1 Chen Yufei in an absorbing contest. The 2017 and 2018 champion defeated the Chinese player 21-19 21-15 in 44 minutes to win the women singles contest.

Chen Yufei made the more promising start, but Tai Tzu was never out of the contest as she continued to stay within touching distance of the Chinese player in the opening game. Both players were locked in at 19-all and either one could have taken the opening game. Tai Tzu held her nerve and the opening game to have the advantage; and then despite Chen’s fight in the second game Tai Tzu broke away in the business end of the second game to win the title.

Earlier in the day, Viktor Axelsen took the men’s singles crown defeating number one seed Chou Chen Tien 21-13 21-14. Despite its top billing, the contest was rather one sided with Viktor taking an early lead and further extending his dominance halfway through the first game. A string of six points in the first game virtually put the Dane out of sights.

The second game was a little more competitive with both players going for the attack, and yet Viktor once again proved to be a lot more adept at taking apart his Chinese counterpart

Japanese pairing of Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota took the women’s doubles crown while their male compatriots Hiroyuki Endo/Yuta Watanabe defeated Indonesian top seeds Marcus Fernaldi/Kevin Sanjaya in a thrilling three-game contest.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian mixed doubles pairing Parveen Jordan/MelatiOktavianti defeated the Thai pairing DechapolPuavaranukroh/SapisreeTaerattanachai to take their first All England title.
