Due to the ongoing corona virus pandemic, the Premier Badminton League Season Six has been postponed. The premier club competition for badminton in the world, will not keep its traditional start date of late December & early January, and will instead be played at a yet uninformed date.

Announcing the postponement, the Premier Badminton League said in a statement posted across their social media channels, “Due to the covid 19 pandemic, Premier Badminton League Season 6 has been postponed. But we assure you that we will be back soon”

The league also thanked the fans for their understanding but did not provide a timeframe or window of rescheduling.

Although widely expected the postponement will be a huge disappointment to everyone. The fans & franchisees, the players & the promoters – everyone has got accustomed to the 3-week long tournament bringing together the best of badminton players from the world over.

The league is the latest of the tournaments to have fallen prey to the widespread disruption of the sport and will find it hard to find a window in the already packed 2021 season. There are some marquee tournaments lined up already, and there is no certainty even they would happen as scheduled right now.

Players will be focussed on the Olympics and Olympics qualifications in the first half of the year with the later half expected to see the World Championships, Thomas & Uber Cup, besides the usual line-up of top-line Super Series – all postponed from their original dates in 2020.

Bangalore Raptors won their second successive PBL Title earlier this year, in what was a postponed season in itself – held in February 2020. Almost immediately following the tournament, the world went into a shutdown mode and badminton is yet to fully recover from the same.
