The undisputed new service rule by the world governing body is advantageous to many shuttlers, while, it drew many tall shuttlers into trouble.

The rule - a shuttlecock shall be held less than 1.15 metres (3.8 feet) from a court's surface at the instant of hitting- will be implemented from the upcoming All England Open that will be held from March 14-18.

World No. 2 Datuk Lee Chong Wei chided the new service rule as it is disadvantageous to  the tall shuttlers.

As quoted the saying by The New Straits Times, Lee Chong Wei said, “The Badminton World Federation (BWF) should have opted for small tournaments to test it.”

He added, “If I make any mistake during the serve at the All England, I will ask umpire the proper way to serve according to the new rule.”

Previously, the world no. 1 Viktor Axelsen mocked the new service rule in a video during his practice sessions before calling it as ‘ridiculous’. While, Sindhu from India felt that BWF should have tested the rule with the smaller tournaments before the All England.

A November 2017 post on the BWF website quoted its president Poul-Erik Hoyer as saying it was "looking for new ways to improve how the service laws are applied".
