Top seeded Subhankar Dey lost the finals at the Kabal International 2018

Top seeded Subhankar Dey lost to the third seeded Victor Svendsen of Denmark with 21-19, 21-19 in the 38-minute men’s singles final match at the KaBal International in Karvina, Czech Republic.


The top seeded Indian rebounded well while saving the points consistently in both the games, but could not turn the tables and lst to the Dane.


The Nationals bronze winner Dey, grabbed the first point but remained stock-still trailing with 1-5. The Indian managed to score couple of points, and later he created the room for his opponent to to save six consecutive points with 5-11 by the half time.


After the breather, the Indian somehow tried reaching Victor at 15-16, yet trailed and caught him at 18-18. Dey saved another point before allowing the opponent to seal the match.


Same play scripted in the second game, wherein the Indian cruised trailing from 6-16 to 13-16, and eventually lost the stride in gaining the game point.

The World No. 63 falling in the second game, Dey registered easy victory by defeating Dmytro Zavadsky in the 53-minute battle of the semi-finals.


Dey has been into the spotlight last year after defeating the Singapore Open Super Series winner B Sai Praneeth, that led him to clinch bronze medal at the Senior Nationals Championships.


He also won an International Series title in Iceland, besides the Portuguese International.


While, other shuttler could not mark as Dey did at the KaBal International badminton tournament. The fifth seeded Karan Rajan Rajarajan lost to Ade Resky Dwicahyo with 11-21, 19-21 in the first round.  


Other men’s singles shuttlers, Sahil Sipani and Adrian George, also could not do well in the first round.


Women’s singles player Smit Toshniwal was able to complete the first hurdle before falling down in the three-game second round event against the eighth seeded Getter Saar and Ira Sharma lost to seventh seed Katerina Tomalova in the opener.
