Mark Caljouw & Parupalli Kashyap in Pre-Quarters of the Orleans Masters

Second Seeded Mark Caljouw made it to the R-16 of the Orleans Masters in France with a hard-fought win over Malaysian Goh Giap Chin, while sixth seeded Parupalli Kashyap had it relatively easy against Italian Rosario Maddaloni as he took the R-32 match in straight games at 21-15 21-17. Also, into the round of 16 were Mithun Manjunath and Ajay Jayram – who both progressed with straight games wins.

Mark Caljouw will now face up to German contender Kai Schaefer, while Kashyap will play the unseeded Japanese Koki Watanabe. Ajay Jayram while face Thomas Rouxel for a place in the Quarter-Finals while Mithun Manjunath will square off against World #142 Gatjra Piliang Fiqihilahi. 

The Indian challenge in the women’s singles rides on Mugdha Agrey who will play her pre-quarter finals match against eight seeded Swiss opponent Sabrina Jaquet. Mugdha beat compatriot Sri Krishna Priya in a pulsating opening round match that went the distance 21-16 20-22 21-13.

Sabrina Jaquet also squared off against an Indian opponent in the opening round match, as she beat Vaidehi Choudhari 21-16 21-19. Also in the second round are top seeded Kirsty Gilmour, second seeded Saena Kawakami and third seed Ayumi Mine. 

Druv Kapila/Krishna Prasad Garaga lost in the opening round of the men’s doubles against Indonesian pair Muhammad Shohibul/Bagas Maulana, while the top seeds Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge also fell at the first hurdle.

Pooja Dandu/Sanjana Santosh lead the Indian challenge in the women’s doubles. They won their opening round match-up against German pair Eva Janssens/Kilasu Ostermeyer 21-14 23-21. The second Indian pairing of Kuhoo Garg/Sali Rane couldn’t make it to the second round as they lost 22-20 21-14 to another German pairing Annabelle Jager/Stine Kuspert. 

Kuhoo Garg, however, did make it to the second round in the mixed doubles as she paired up with Dhruv Kapila to win 21-18 21-19 against German pair Jag Colin Volker/Eva Janssens. While, Venkat Gaurav Prasad/Juhi Dewangan had a tough tie against fourth seeded Russian pair Evgenji Dremin/Evgenia Dimova.
