BWF Rankings: Srikanth and Prannoy falls, Ajay Rises

A jolting changes took place in the latest BWF World Rankings, where the Indian shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy slipped three and five places to 7th and 13th positions respectively, while, Ajay Jayaram jumped to 39 positions higher to settle at 95th position.

 

Ajay, who had slipped out of top 100 in the rankings list, outshone by reaching the semi-finals at the recently-concluded US Open 2018 to win 4,900 points which ended up with huge leap in the latest BWF World Rankings.

 

Meanwhile, Srikanth who had clinched the silver at the Commonwealth Games, has not played in any tournament since participating in the Asia Championship in April, while Prannoy didn’t participate in US Open 2018 to defend his title, and that affected with rankings.  

 

In the Women’s Singles category, the Olympic queens PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal remained static at 3rd and 10th positions respectively.

 

Parupalli Kashyap, the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and the finalist at the 2017 US Open tourney, ousted from top 50 list to settle at 51st position.

 

Other Men’s Singles shuttlers -- Sameer Verma, B. Sai Praneeth, Sourabh Verma -- remained at 9th, 21st, and 71st position respectively.

 

The new champion at the US Open 2018, Li Xuerui of China, after gaining 7,000 points at the tournament in Women’s Singles, rebounded to top 100 from 141th to 82nd place, while Men’s Singles champion rises 10 spots to 28th place.
