World no. 2 Lee Chong Wei gets another great opportunity at World Super Series Finals at Dubai to compensate his early exit in the opening round at the 2017 World Championship at Glasgow.

Seeded second at the tournament in Glasgow, Chong Wei after losing in the first game against Brice Leverdez of France, had tough fight and somehow saved the second game with 24-22 to throw the match at the decider. In the final game, the Malaysian couldn’t maintain the same spirit and lost the match of 75 minutes to the opponent. This was the worst-ever outing.

Datuk Tey Seu Bock, the Malaysian national coach hopes that the national no. 1 shuttler will make reparation at the biggest World Super Series Finals in Dubai starting today. “Chong Wei played under pressure in Glasgow. He’s more composed now and has regained confidence after winning the Hong Kong Open. I hope that he’ll enjoy every match that comes his way in Dubai.”

“It’s a good chance for him to end the year on a good note at this world-level tournament. The goal is to reach at least the semifinals,” he added.

Chong will have early face-off against the four-time World Super Series Finals champion and 9th ranked Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong in the opening round of Group A.

The Malaysian coach told as Chong lost to Angus recently at the China Open, the match between them would be tricky at the Finals.

Meanwhile in Group B, India’s Kidambi Srikanth will have early face-off against the top ranked Viktor Axelsen. Only the top two in each group will progress into semifinals.
